Why do I need to read these guidelines?
To have more information about SPEAK courses, SPEAK Buddies and more stuff. This will set your expectations clear :)
What is a Buddy, Ambassador and SPEAKer?
SPEAK is growing and we would like to maintain communication clear, coherent and easy, this is why we developed this glossary to help you understand what means what.
  1. SPEAK - When we use the word SPEAK, we are referring to the project.
  2. Ambassador - Person who helps to bring dynamic to the community through the organization of events.
  3. Buddy - Person who helps a group of people to practice and learn a language and culture for 18 hours throughout 12 weeks.
  4. Courses - A set of 12 session s of 1,5 hours each where Buddies and participants share their language and culture.
  5. Session - 1,5 hour where Buddies and participants share and learn a new language and culture.
  6. Participants - Anyone who is learning or practicing a language and culture at SPEAK.
  7. SPEAKers - Anyone who belongs to the community by participating on the courses or going to events.
  8. SPEAK events - Gatherings organized by SPEAK community.
How do I apply to a SPEAK course?
To apply as a SPEAK participant you need to follow the next steps:
  1. Go to www.speak.social and choose your city.
  2. Read the information about the SPEAK course and then click in "Sign up now!".
  3. Fill in the blanks with your personal details and choose the payment method.
  4. You will receive a confirmation detail with the payment instructions. 
After doing the payment, you will be confirmed in the course and will have the course page and information in your profile
How can I pay my application fee?
For you to proceed with the payment for the courses you can go for one of these three methods: 
- ATM reference: at any ATM machine or comfortably through home-banking. At the ATM you need to select "Service Payments" and introduce the entity, reference and amount data given to you.
- PayShop: you can go to any PayShop agent (CTT post office for example) and do your payment. You just need to use the PayShop reference and amount given to you.
- Paypal: From which it’ll associate to your account and do the payment from there.
- Credit / Debit Card: By simply adding your card number and CVV code in the respective fields.
- Bank Transfer: You will be provided the bank details needed such as the IBAN, SWIFT and application code. You can do this at any ATM or comfortably at home through homebanking. It is crucial that in the description of your bank transfer you write down the registration code we give you so we know which application you are paying for.
Note: For bank transfers please take into account that it’s for a portuguese bank account and you’ll have to select the option for european transfers.
To guarantee that the application process is quick and organised, we can only wait 72 hours for the payment to be made. If the payment is not made within this time, the application will be removed from the system to free the space for other participants. Make the payment as soon as you can to guarantee your space!
Where are the sessions, what languages are available and what is the schedule?
Information about courses and languages is available on the SPEAK website. Go to www.speak.social and select your city.
Can I attend one session before I register?
No. For security reasons only confirmed and registered users can attend courses.
Why did the login with my Facebook account fail?
The login with Facebook can fail for the following reasons:
  1. You aren’t registered in SPEAK yet: if you haven’t registered in SPEAK, you can do it by clicking on option "JOIN" on the top of our website and fill the form. Please note that you can do it with your Facebook account.
  2. The email linked to your Facebook account wasn’t found in our database: if the email linked to your Facebook account is different from the one you used to register in SPEAK, you will have to add your Facebook login manually and only then you will be able to login through Facebook automatically.
  3. Login with your username and password;
    Go to your account settings webpage and click on the link to add your Facebook login to your account. This will enable you to login with Facebook.
Who can participate in SPEAK?
SPEAK is open to everyone. The only limit is the minimum age of 16 years old.
I am under 16, can I participate?
No. Only people with 16 years or more can participate. At SPEAK, we want sessions with a relaxed atmosphere and where the participants feel comfortable to comunicate through the activities promoted by the SPEAK Buddies. We know that children and teenagers have different needs and require different methods and materials, more suitable to their ages.
How much do I need to pay?
To participate in a SPEAK course you need to pay € 25. It’s a one time payment and gives you access to the entire course and events.

If you can't pay you can request a scholarship.

If you are a Buddy or Ambassador you can apply for any SPEAK course for free. 
I lost my password, how can I get it back?
To recover your password, simply click “login” and select “forgot my password”. At the password recovery form you should enter your login email. After submitting the form you will receive an email with a new password. Please note that the email can go to spam. If that happens don't forget to mark it as not spam.
How can I delete my account?
At the bottom page of the account settings you have the "delete account" option.
How can I have access to my SPEAK CV?
You can access your CV (history in SPEAK as a participant and Buddy). To do this, go to your profile page, click on "My SPEAK CV" and download it. The CV is only available in the English version.
