Community Manager

About you
You were born for helping other people and love to solve problems! You are passionate about people, you are sociable and easy going but you still are a natural project manager and process improvement is something you enjoy. You understand that volunteers have the power to change the world and you would like to create a community with them. You have good communication and persuasion skills or you want to develop them. You are ambitious, results-oriented, positive, energetic and self-disciplined. You do what needs to be done but always try to get the best out of every situation -- you know that it takes hard work, dedication and persistence to reach your goals.
Job description - what you will get to do:
  • Build a dynamic online and real-world community;
  • Nurture the community and interact with our users (in particular SPEAK Buddies) through online properties;
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with some of our most active users. You will be in tune with the community climate and will be able to influence key stakeholders to make critical product or process changes;
  • Mobilize the community to organize community events;
  • Train SPEAK volunteers (Buddies and Ambassadors);
  • Design and implement quality control processes;
  • Discover and analyse gaps in the customer experience that may lead to customer attrition and find opportunities to increase customer retention.
Main requirements - you should:
  • Degree in Business, Economics or Engineering studies is a plus;
  • Have a “hands on” approach and very good analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to take on management and process design challenges;
  • Have project management skills;
  • Technically savvy and intellectually curious about new technologies and how they work;
  • Ability to create empathy with participants and show comprehension and availability for future interactions;
  • Well-versed in online community trends and in strategies on managing volunteers at scale;
  • Comfortable speaking in public
  • Fluent in Portuguese and English (other languages are a plus);
  • Passionate about the three social S’s: social entrepreneurship, social innovation and social impact;
  • Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment with multiple responsibilities and deadlines where prioritization is key;
  • Have a good sense of humor - and we are not even joking!
What else do you need to know?
  • This is an entry-level role based in Lisbon;
  • You will report to our COO;
  • You will start on a 6-month fixed term contract;
  • You must be available to work 40 hours a week.

Flexible schedule and ability to work remote: we have seen that we improve our performance when we work together. Also, it helps building relationships, trust, and respecting the contributions of a hard-working team which is key.  However, sometimes if you could work remotely the quality of your life would increase quite a bit so that's totally OK.
