Every minute, 20 people leave everything behind to escape war, persecution or terror.
The World Refugee Day, June 20th, is an occasion to build empathy and understanding for the plight of refugees and to recognize their resilience in rebuilding their lives.
We don't celebrate this day, but WE RECOGNIZE IT!
We recognize the hurdles and obstacles of the refugees who have fled their country and how much strength and courage is needed for them to do so.
In a familiar environment, we will come closer to the understanding and challenges of refugees before and after arriving in The Netherlands.
This is a safe space where you can ask the questions you never dared to ask and get to know a "refugee" beyond his/her status, but as a person.
Two interviews will take place with Orrwa Alhaffar and a surprise guest!
They will talk about their journey, challenges, lives and their love for Utrecht.
Also, we will have a Photo-exhibition by Asanté Boyce - "Shifting the dialogue" - a photo-project guiding us through the perceptions and knowledge that people with a refugee background in Utrecht have of nature and the environment
